This one pound banknote of Dundee Union Bank dates from around 1840. It is a specimen only and was never issued.

The note is engraved (on one side only) by Perkins and Bacon of London. There is no watermark and there are spaces for the signatures of the cashier and accountant.

The Dundee Union Bank opened in 1809, trading in competition with the long-standing Dundee Banking Company. Eight branches were soon opened in the Dundee area. In 1844 the Dundee Union Bank was absorbed by the Western Bank of Scotland, based in Glasgow.
