Silver badge of the Ancient Order of Free Gardeners

This silver badge of the Ancient Order of Free Gardeners dates from 1790. It was possibly made by Glasgow silversmith, William Love.

The badge has a design incorporating various gardening implements. It is inscribed with the motto 'Nos More Adami Vivimus Tel Lur Colenda'.

The skills of the 18th-century Scots gardener were sought throughout Europe.
