Grave-slab

This 13th-century sandstone grave-slab is from Coupar Angus Abbey in Perthshire. Although now in very poor condition, this stone was once a very fine piece of carving and was clearly for a person of some distinction.

The slab depicts Christ seated below a richly moulded canopy. Below him are two angels or saints holding aloft a soul in prayer.
