Cooking pot

This cooking pot was found during excavations at Kelso Abbey in the Borders in 1975-6. It dates from the 12th century.

The pot has straight sides and a largely complete base.

Kelso Abbey was established in 1128 by a group of monks who came to Scotland from Tiron in France. The monks were granted extensive land, which brought rent and taxes to the monastery.
