Mail notice for Stirling

This mail notice, dated 1715, was issued by J.A. Anderson, the postmaster general of Scotland at that time. The notice gives details of horse postal services being introduced from Stirling to Edinburgh and London.

Mail notice of the postmaster of that time, dated 1715

The development of the horse post in the early 18th century speeded up delivery of letters. Writing became an increasingly important means of long distance communication.
