This is the obverse of a silver medal of Queen's Park Football Club. Made by D Cunninghame, the medal was awarded in 1883 for amateur athletic sports, an event which the leading Glasgow football team organized.

The obverse depicts the arms of Glasgow with a football above and the motto underneath - 'LET GLASGOW FLOURISH'. The surrounding text reads, 'QUEEN'S PARK FOOTBALL CLUB'.

Queen's Park, the first club in Scotland, was founded in 1867. The first international match took place in 1872 and the Scottish Cup was set up in 1873. By 1890 the sport was dominated by Glasgow's `Old Firm', Celtic and Rangers.
