Add to album

This is the obverse of a silver 60 shilling piece minted at Edinburgh between 1637 and 1638, during the reign of Charles I.

The obverse bears an image of the king on horseback. The Latin inscription translates as: 'Charles, by the Grace of God, King of Great Britain, France and Ireland.' There is a sideways 'B' above a thistle initial mark in the legend.

The 'B' on the coin is the initial of Nicolas Briot, Master of the Mint at this time.
