Add to album

The Highland dirk was an all-purpose implement which evolved from the medieval dagger. This example dates from 1713.

The sword has a cut-down blade, a wooden hilt and pewter pommel mount dated 1713.

Dirks could be tools, utensils for eating, and weapons. They were made in the Highlands by local craftsmen, and carried by most men.
