This dagger, known as a dudgeon dagger, dates from the early 17th century. Dudgeon is an old word for wood used for making dagger hilts.

The dagger has a wooden hilt and mounts of steel and brass. There is gilt and engraved decoration on the blade, including the Home coat-of-arms and the initials MRH (for Master R. Home).
