Medal (reverse), commemorating Scottish Temperance Jubilee

This is the reverse of a silver medal issued by the Glasgow Band of Hope in 1879 to celebrate the Scottish Temperance Jubilee, the 50th anniversary of temperance in Scotland. The medal was made by D. Cunninghame in 1879.

In the centre of the reverse is the inscription 'Scottish Temperence Jubilee 1879', with a thistle above and below. The inscription around the edge reads 'Temperence Movement Begun By Dunlop Collins And Others in 1829'.

The Band of Hope, established in 1847, educated children against the evils of alcohol.
