Watercolour called 'Levenhall Shore'
Add to album

This watercolour is called 'Levenhall Shore' and depicts a stretch of the southern shore of the Firth of Forth, by West Pans in East Lothian. It is unsigned and undated but was painted around 1800.

The village of West Pans and, possibly, the local pottery are in the middle distance of the painting. There is a boat in the foreground.

Excavations on the site and research show that pottery had been made at West Pans from the early 18th century and continued into the 19th century.
