Ring

This silver-gilt ring was found at Whithorn Priory Church in Wigtownshire. It dates from the 13th century.

The ring has an oblong bezel set with an amethyst.

Whithorn has one of the longest associations with Christianity of any place in Scotland through its link with St. Ninian, one of Scotland's early saints. He was a British bishop based at Whithorn in Wigtownshire in the second half of the 5th century.
