Powder horn, associated with Rob Roy Macgregor

This powder horn with brass mounts is said to have belonged to Rob Roy MacGregor. It dates from the 18th century.

Powder-horn with globular-shaped body and brass mounts, said to have belonged to Rob Roy, with maker's mark of a crowned `CR'

Powder horns were fashioned from cow's horns softened in boiling oil and flattened before being carved. They were plugged at the wider end, and the stopper at the narrow end was often used to measure the correct quantity of gunpowder.
