Grave slab (cast)

This is the front of a fibreglass cast of a stone grave slab from Finlaggan on Islay in Argyll. The slab dates from the 14th or 15th century.

The outline of a galley, a sword shaft and a plant scroll can be seen on the front of the slab.

Carved stone graveslabs illustrate the Celtic or Gaelic tradition in Scotland. They are found throughout the West Highlands, commissioned as memorials to important or influential people.
