This redware sgraffito kitchen bowl was probably made at Dryley's pottery at Montrose. It dates from 1865.

The bowl is decorated with peacocks, flags and a crown. It bears the inscription 'Mrs Alex Mather Arbroath / 1865'.

Several potteries existed in the north-east of Scotland, mainly catering for local markets.
