Mustard spoon (front), associated with MacLeods of Geanies, Ross-shire
Add to album

This is the front of a silver mustard spoon associated with the MacLeods of Geanies in Ross-shire. Dated 1817, the spoon is part of a service assembled by several generations of the family.

The spoon was made in Calcutta by Hamilton and Co, using a king's pattern design by Morton of Edinburgh.

Items in the service are thought to have been commissioned by Duncan MacLeod, a lieutenant-general in the Bengal Army, and his son Donald Friel MacLeod, a prominent administrator in the Indian Civil Service.
