Cooking pot
Add to album

This cooking pot was found at Bothwell Castle in Lanarkshire in 1937-8. It dates from the 15th or 16th century.

The pot has two small loop handles. The cupped rim, which is turned outwards, is the only part of the pot to have been glazed.

Situated on the Clyde, Bothwell Castle was probably built in the second half of the 13th century and was an important fortress during the Wars of Independence. It has been called 'probably the greatest ruin of its kind in Scotland'.
