Add to album

The metal baptismal basin was given to the Gaelic Free Church of Edinburgh by Alexander McIntosh in 1844. Such basins were used at a table or put into baptismal brackets.

On the rim of the basin is an inscription that reads: 'Presented by Alexr. McIntosh to the Gaelic Free Church, Edinburgh, 1844'.

The minister and most of the members and office bearers of the Gaelic-speaking congregation of the Church of Scotland joined the Free Church at the time of the Disruption of 1843, and formed the Gaelic Free Church.
