Medal (obverse), commemorating Battle of Dunbar

This is the obverse of a silver medal commemorating the victory of Oliver Cromwell's forces over a Scottish army at the Battle of Dunbar in September 1650. Such medals were awarded to soldiers in Cromwell's army who distinguished themselves in the battle.

The obverse of the medal bears a bust of Cromwell with the Battle of Dunbar faintly visible in the background.

By defeating Scottish forces at Dunbar, Cromwell's New Model Army gained control of most of lowland Scotland.
