Banknote (front), One pound, issued by National Bank of Scotland

This is the front of a one pound banknote, issued by the National Bank of Scotland on 15 May 1924.

On the left hand side of the note is the bust of the Marquess of Lothian who was governor of the bank from 1874 to 1900.

The National Bank of Scotland opened in 1825 operating a branch system which quickly grew. In the 1830s it absorbed banking companies based in Aberdeen and Perth. It eventually merged with Commercial Bank of Scotland Ltd in 1959.
