Banknote (front), One pound, issued by British Linen Bank
Add to album

This banknote for one pound sterling was issued by the British Linen Bank. It is dated 3 August 1916.

The front of the note features the bank's arms, superimposed with a red sunburst. The use of a second colour in printing notes made forgery more difficult.

The British Linen Company started issuing notes in 1747 and by 1800 was one of the three most important banks in Scotland. It merged with the Bank of Scotland in 1970.
