Banknote, One Pound, Issued by the Bank of Scotland

This one pound banknote was issued by the Bank of Scotland on the 22nd April, 1885.

The note has the reference number 78/A 3487 and bears the printed signature of the secretary, J. F. Stormonth Darling.

The Bank of Scotland was Scotland's first bank (established in 1695). Constituted by an act of the Scottish Parliament, it ensured that the bank would be the only one in Scotland for the following 21 years. Only after that time were other banks created.
