This banknote for one pound sterling was issued by the Ship Bank. It is dated 2 June 1759. It is signed by Alexander Morson, Cashier, Colin Dunlop and Alexander Houston. The banknote is printed on one side only.

Founded by prosperous Glasgow tobacco merchants in 1750, the Ship Bank took its name from the sailing ship featured on its notes. It became one of the more famous 'old' banks of Scotland. In 1836 it merged with the Glasgow Bank Company.
