Plate & mould

This earthenware plate, pictured here with its plaster of Paris mould, was made around 1830 at R & G Gordon's pottery at Prestonpans in East Lothian.

The green glazed plate has a relief moulded leaf, with a basket-weave pattern on the rim. `R & G Gordon` and a crown are impressed on the base.

An identical design was produced in the 1880s by Belfield's pottery, also located in Prestonpans. They may have acquired the mould when Gordon's closed down.
