Add to album

This earthenware plaque with a bust of Queen Victoria was made in 1840, possibly at one of the potteries in Prestonpans in East or Portobello in Midlothian.

Oblong yellow-glazed earthenware panel or plaque with a bust of Queen Victoria in bas-relief, possibly made at Prestonpans, c. 1840

Queen Victoria first visited Scotland in 1842, four years after her coronation, and immediately developed an affection for the country. Her visits became annual migrations, Balmoral Castle being built for her in 1855.
