Plate

This earthenware plate was made around 1851 by the Glasgow potters J. and M.P. Bell. The plate pattern is 'Crystal Palace', commemorating the Great Exhibition in London in 1851.

Earthenware plate printed in underglaze blue with a view of the Crystal Palace, made at the factory of J. and M.P. Bell and Co., Glasgow, c. 1851 - 1855

John and Matthew Perston Bell's company became one of the biggest and best-known potteries in Scotland. In production by 1842, the Glasgow Pottery, or 'Bells' as it was more commonly known, made a wide range of wares.
