Reflecting telescope

This reflecting telescope was made in 1735 by James Short of Edinburgh. The telescope is made of brass with speculum metal optics. It has a fitted wooden case.

Telescopes such as this one were based on the reflecting telescope designed in 1663 by James Gregory, Professor of Mathematics at St Andrews and Edinburgh Universities.
