This engraved, hand-coloured map of the Lorne district of Argyll is based on surveys by Timothy Pont and was prepared by Robert Gordon of Straloch around 1642 for publication in Blaeu's atlas.

Engraved and hand-colourd map of the Lorne district of Argyll made by Robert Gordon about 1642

In the late 16th century Pont carried out on foot a remarkable survey of Scotland, which took him nearly 20 years. Gordon of Straloch later revised some of Pont's manuscripts, and they were published by Johann Blaeu of Amsterdam in 1654.
