Model of a merchant brig, the 'Mary'

A brig is a two-masted ship with square sails. This wooden model is of the merchant snow-brig 'Mary' and dates from around 1860. The original ship was built at Annan in Dumfriesshire in 1818.

The model is made to a scale of 1:48.

The original snow-brig 'Mary' was used as a trader between Annan and the Baltic until the 1850's when she worked as a Liverpool coaster. Around 1860 she was re-rigged and worked as a Liverpool coaster. She ceased service after 1870.
