This glass bottle was found in 1912 in a coal pit near Stevenston in Ayrshire. It dates from around 1772 when the pit was abandoned because of flooding. The bottle was probably used in the mine for drinking purposes.

The stump of the broken bottle neck has been ground down so that it can be used for drinking.
