Model of a revolving turnip-slicer

This is a wooden model of a revolving turnip-slicer. In 1806 the Highland Society awarded a £15 prize for this machine's design.

One of a collection of agricultural models and implements, etc. - food preparing machine - a revolving turnip slicer presented by the Right Honourable Lord Polwarth, 1840

Turnips became important during the 19th century as winter feed for livestock, allowing less hardy beasts to survive.
