Model of a sowing machine

This model sowing machine for turnips and bone-dust was made in 1830 by a Mr Hamilton of Dumfriesshire.

The machine was designed to sow drills of turnip seed mixed with ground-up bones, the fashionable and preferred fertiliser in the second quarter of the 19th century.
