Dirk

Early dirks were lethal stabbing weapons. This bronze example was found in under a boulder about a foot from the shore of Loch Glashan in Argyll. It dates from between 1300 and 1100 BC.

The blade has a trapezoidal-shaped hilt with two notches for rivets.

Dirks are generally more robust and larger than the earlier Bronze Age daggers they developed from. Many must also have had a ceremonial function.
