Ceramic pot found in a child's grave
Add to album

This small ceramic pot was found in a child's grave at Nunraw in East Lothian. It is a smaller version of a type of pot found in adult burials, and was buried sometime between 2300 and 1800 BC.

The pot is decorated with incised lines created with a comb, arranged in bands around the pot from the rim to the base.

Different age groups sometimes had different burial customs. Some children received a modified version of an adult burial. Here, this unusually small pot was included as a grave good within a cist containing a child's inhumation.
