Mount

This gilt copper mount with the remains of amber settings was found in the west of Scotland. It was made either in Ireland or Scotland. Sometime between 800 and 1000 it was later obtained as loot or a gift by Viking settlers in the west of Scotland.

The circular mount has two triangular projections on its circumference. The geometric ornament is carved in relief. The mount is in poor condition.

The mounts on many Irish and Scottish objects such as reliquaries, were elaborate and richly decorated. Viking raiders sometimes cut the mounts from looted reliquaries and re-fashioned them into other objects such as brooches or weights.
