Carved pebble
Add to album

This pebble is one of several incised with crosses found at St Ninian's Cave in Wigtownshire. The cross was carved on the pebble sometime between 500 and 1200.

The pebble is flat and worn by water.

St Ninian was one of Scotland's early saints. He was a British bishop based at Whithorn in Wigtownshire in the second half of the 5th century and seems to have played a significant part in the spread of Christianity to the east and south of Scotland.
