Cast of the grave-slab of Murchardus MacDuffie of Colonsay

This is a cast of one of the most elegant of all the West Highland grave-slabs. Made in 1539, the slab comes from Oronsay Priory in Argyll. It marked the grave of Murchardus MacDuffie of Colonsay.

The slab includes a claymore, a galley and a depiction of a deer-hunt. A Latin inscription on the top and right side reads: 'Here lies Murchardus MacDuffie of Colonsay who died in the year of our Lord 1539; and Mariota MacLean caused me to be made'.
