Strap fastener
Add to album

This brass strap fastener was found at Lochspouts Crannog in Ayrshire. It was used, probably on harness equipment, sometime during the first two centuries AD.

The fastener is unique in form, although some decorative elements are found on contemporary fasteners.

Although leather rarely survives, the metal buckles, strap fasteners, terminals, plates, mounts, and pendants attached to a harness are sometimes found. Some are simple, for everyday use, and others more ornate.
