Spoon

This bone spoon was found on a crannog in Ashgrove Loch in Ayrshire. It dates from around 0 to 300 AD.

The spoon has a long slender handle and a shallow, oval bowl.

Spoons, knives and fingers were the only 'utensils' used for consuming foodstuffs until the Medieval period when forks were added.
