Rein guide from a yoke

This bronze rein guide from a yoke, also known as a terret, was found at Camps at Edgerston in Roxburghshire. It has an iron crossbar. The fitting dates from between 80 and 200 AD.

Plain copper alloy terret with an iron crossbar, from Camps, Edgerston, Roxburghshire

Entire carts or wagons from this period rarely survive. Often all that is left are metal fittings and bindings, such as the harness fittings which attached a yoke to the harness.
