Dagger

This iron dagger blade or scramasax was found at the vitrified fort of Dun Mac Uisneachan at Ardchattan in Argyll. It was used sometime between 400 and 900.

The single-edged blade and tang survive, although they are much corroded.

The period between 400 and 900 was a turbulent one in Scottish history, with tribal groups of Picts, Scots, Angles, Britons and Scandinavians contesting for power. Greater skills in ironworking produced bigger and better weapons.
