Carved stone object
Add to album

This carved stone object is one of several unusually carved stone objects found at the Neolithic settlement site of Skara Brae on Orkney. It was used between 3100 and 2500 BC.

The stone object has two raised mouldings encircling it and a sunken waist between them. The smaller end is pointed and the larger has a rounded section.

Several unusually-shaped carved stone objects were found at Skara Brae. Many functions for them have been suggested. All that is certain is that they were prestigious possessions, symbols of power.
