Rein guide from a yoke

This iron rein guide from a yoke, also known as a terret, is one of a number found at Traprain Law in East Lothian. All but this example were made of bronze. It dates from the first four centuries AD.

Iron terret from Traprain Law

Entire carts or wagons from this period rarely survive. Often all that is left are metal fittings and bindings, such as the harness fittings which attached a yoke to the harness.
