Fragment of a bronze pin
Add to album

This fragment of a bronze pin was found at À Cheardach Mhor on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides. It is an Irish type, and was either imported from Ireland or made in Scotland to copy the Irish fashion sometime between 600 and 750 AD.

This is a fragment of a balister-headed, spiral-ringed pin which was used as a dress fastener. Originally a thread attached to the spiral ring could have looped around the end of the pin to keep the garment firmly pinned.
