Harness mount of bronze

This bronze harness mount was found at Everley Broch in Caithness. It was probably used on a harness sometime between 200 BC and 200 AD.

The mount is corroded, with a small hole near the central boss.

Finds of horseshoes and harness and bridle fittings provide evidence of the importance of horses from an early period. They were used in transport from around 1000 BC (and possibly earlier).
