Fragments of a glass bottle

These fragments from the body of a glass bottle were found at Torwoodlee in Selkirkshire. They are from a Roman object which found its way to a native site sometime between 80 and 200 AD.

Powerful local chieftains controlled contact with the Romans, keeping most of the Roman objects and passing some onto their followers. The Roman objects provided valuable raw materials, and were often reused for other purposes.
