Cup (Fragment)

This engraved glass cup fragment was found at the site of the Roman fort at Castlecary in Stirlingshire. It was imported from the Rhineland between 142 and 180 AD.

Glass tableware was an expensive and prized possession in Roman times. Workshops operated in the Rhineland, Gaul, Italy and the eastern Roman Empire, and perhaps in England as well.
