Statue (Piece)
Add to album

This piece of a sandstone statue was found at the site of the Roman fort at Camelon in Stirlingshire. It probably represents a Romano-Celtic god. The object dates from between 80 and 165 AD.

Only the torso survives of the statue.

Roman religion was tolerant and flexible towards other beliefs. Foreign deities, both local and exotic, were readily incorporated into Roman beliefs, as shown by statues such as this one.
