These bronze needles were found at the Roman fort of Newstead in Roxburghshire, at the native hillfort site of Traprain Law in East Lothian and at Balevullin on Tiree in the Inner Hebrides. They were used sometime in the 1st millennium AD.

Where textiles were produced and finished, sewing needles and bodkins were needed. Needles in both bone and metal have survived from Roman and native sites in the 1st millennium AD.
