This belt fitting, part of a Roman legionary soldier's uniform, was found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It hung at the bottom of the leather strips forming the belt.

The fitting is made of very thin bronze.

A Roman legionary soldier wore an 'apron' over his belt. It was made of strips of leather, often decorated with discs and with ornate terminals. Although the leather strips rarely survive, the fittings have been found.
